The Swiss Transparency Register is coming – is your company ready?

New beneficial-owner reporting duties under the LETA from 1 October 2026

Nearly every Swiss company will soon have to report its beneficial owners to a new federal register. Here is what changes on 1 October 2026 – and what to do now.

On 1 October 2026, the new Federal Act on the Transparency of Legal Entities (LETA/TJPG) enters into force. Nearly all Swiss companies - and certain foreign entities with a Swiss connection - must report their beneficial owners to a new central Transparency Register maintained by the Federal Office of Justice.

Three points deserve your attention now

  • A new definition of beneficial owner. The definition differs from the previous rules (art. 697j CO) - beneficial owners must be newly identified, even if you have existing documentation.
  • Staggered deadlines. Deadlines for existing companies are staggered between 31 December 2026 and 31 March 2027 - but any change to your commercial register entry after 1 October 2026 triggers a one-month filing deadline instead.
  • Electronic filing via EasyGov. Filings are made electronically via EasyGov, and registration is already open. We recommend registering early.

Violations can be fined up to CHF 500,000. Responsibility lies with the highest-ranking member of the governing body - the filing itself can be delegated.
